Research Awards

EAOG Research Awards

Since 1989 the EAOG has offered the Research Awards (formerly Travel Scholarships) for young scientists studying in the field of Organic Geochemistry/Biogeochemistry. This offer is being continued. The Research Awards are particularly intended to foster national and international exchange by providing young scientists the opportunity to undertake research in an international host laboratory and by exchanging ideas, expertise and techniques. The Research Award may also be used to support research which requires additional funding to succeed.

Eligibility: Applicants should be Ph.D. students or newly qualified Ph.D.s who wish to work on a project related to their thesis. Applications are open to both Europeans and non-Europeans. Candidates not selected could be considered just once more in the following year.

Deadline: 1 December 2019

Applications will be considered by an awards committee composed of Joseph A. Curiale, Sylvie Derenne, Kliti Grice, Ann Pearson and Heinz Wilkes (Chairman).

Application:

  • Completed proposal using this template
  • CV
  • Letters of recommendation from supervisors at both the home and host institutions (recommendation letters may separately by the supervisors).
  • It is the responsibility of each applicant to arrange, in advance, agreement with the host laboratory.

Award Amounts: Each EAOG Research Award is regularly up to 3,000€. In exceptional and well justified cases may be up to 5,000€. Budget items typically include travel costs and accommodation. If well justified, funding for living costs and analytical or field work cost may be requested. Bench fees are excluded from funding. The Award Committee may award an amount lower than requested.

Awardees are required to submit a Short Report to the Award Committee within 3 months of completing the project. The award payment divides the grant into 2 installments, with 2/3 paid prior to the research activity and a 1/3 installment to be paid after reception of the short report. The award must also be acknowledged in publications which have benefited from the supported research.

Please send your application as a single PDF-file by email to the Committee Chair.
